Psychologie

The main responsibility of this special clinic is to provide care for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver who are also experiencing psychological stress and disorders. These disorders include depression, alcohol abuse, alcohol use disorder, anxiety, limitations in disease management, difficulties in dealing with chronic disease and changes in important preventive lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, sleep and relationships. Patients with liver disease and addiction complete a special disorder-oriented treatment program with individual therapy, group therapy, education and motivational interviewing in a multiprofessional setting.

Our goals

  • To conduct clinical trials on optimizing the diagnosis and treatment of psychosomatic disorders in gastroenterology and hepatology and to increase interdisciplinary cooperation in this area
  • To develop test concepts for risk evaluation and to improve treatment guidelines
  • To establish prevention, therapy and public health interventions
  • To provide structured patient training and individualized and/or improved treatment strategies
  • To conduct clinical trials that implement risk assessment
  • To introduce structured psychosomatic assessment and treatment

Our project

ELD and AUD

  • Funded by the Austrian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ÖGGH), a registry study is being conducted that includes an examination of the bidirectional connections between liver cirrhosis and alcohol use disorder (AUD)
